Derbyshire Scouts will be hosting a Scouts of the World Award Discovery Event, giving Scout Network members the opportunity to begin working towards one of the movement’s top awards.

What is the Scouts of the World Award?

The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is an award open exclusively to members of Scout Network. It enables young adults to design and deliver a project focused on one of three key global themes: Peace, Environment, or Sustainability.

Participants choose an issue they care about and take meaningful action to create a positive impact in their community or beyond.

Previous projects have included creating nature gardens, establishing food banks, helping vulnerable people obtain voter ID, tackling period poverty, and delivering international initiatives such as setting up a goat farm.

More information about the award is available on the The Scouts website.

SOWA Discovery Event

The Discovery Event is the first step towards completing the award, helping participants explore the themes, develop ideas, and begin planning their own project.

Derbyshire Scouts will host the event 15–17 May at Spinewinter Scout Campsite, located a short bus ride from Chesterfield railway station. The event costs £20 to attend.

Those interested in taking part can sign up by completing the event registration form.
