This module must be completed within three months of becoming an ESYL

Aim: This module aims to give you the essential information you’ll need to perform your ESYL role safely. It will provide you with the immediate skills needed to assist another section, and to understand your role. You’ll also discover how the Scheme works, and find out how to access further learning opportunities.

Objectives: By the end of this module, you’ll be able to:

  1. Explain your role as an ESYL for the section you’re supporting.
  2. Explain how local Scouting is organised.
  3. Summarise the purpose and methods of Scouting.
  4. Explain how the Safeguarding and Safety Policies apply to you.
  5. Explain the importance of Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) and access the information within it.
  6. Show that you understand how POR affects your actions.
  7. Explain why it’s important to run activities safely and why it’s necessary to carry out risk assessments.
  8. Explain the awards that you’ll be able to work towards as an ESYL. These include Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and Scouts Top Awards, as well as your Young Leader award.
  9. Understand how the Scheme works and how to access further learning.

Outcomes: The benefit of this module provides an amazing insight to what adult learning looks like for a young leader. It introduces a young person to skills such as; presentation, understanding, following rules and regulations and idea creation. All skills worthy of any CV.
